Dolomites: Col Margherita cable car reopened at Passo San Pellegrino

col margherita cable carThe Col Margherita cable car at Passo San Pellegrino has been reopened following the forced shutdown of recent days. The announcement was made by Eng. Franco Corso, technical director of the Consorzio Impianti a Fune Trevalli:

“Tremendous work was done to minimize inconvenience for tourists and skiers and make the lift safe again in the shortest possible time. Staff from Funivia Col Margherita Spa, Impianti Falcade-Col Margherita Spa, and Catinaccio worked in shifts day and night non-stop alongside engineers Fabio Degasperi and Nicola Orsi from the Cableway Service of the Province of Trento, the Fiemme and Fassa Firefighters coordinated by Inspector Stefano Sandri and the Permanent Firefighters of Trento, engineers Agostino Dallago, Luigi Cicolini, Mauro Croce, Mauro Naletto, and leading expert Ferruccio Levi, as well as the Alpine Rescue Service, and within just a few days the Col Margherita cable car is back in operation.”

Going into detail:
to restore the stability and safety conditions of the Col Margherita Cable Car, the valley station roof was relieved of the weight of the snow and its steelwork structure was reinforced by re-establishing the central supports of the four partially collapsed IPE 55 longitudinal beams using four braced lattice towers with a 2 x 2 m base, connected to the web of the longitudinal beams via welded gusset plates and underlying shims. These beams rest on the boarding platform, which as a precaution was reinforced with heavy-duty construction props each rated for a nominal load of over 3,000 kg.

The Col Margherita cable car is a vital connecting hub between Veneto and Trentino. “We did everything possible to complete the work needed to reopen the cable car quickly, and our timely intervention prevented a major impact on the economy of the entire area and local tourism,” explains Mauro Vendruscolo, President of Funivia Col Margherita. “For this, our heartfelt and well-deserved thanks go to our men who, assisted by Eng. Franco Corso, once again demonstrated great professionalism, a strong sense of responsibility, and deep attachment to their territory. This team spirit is the true strength of the Dolomiti Superski lift system.”
