A gondola will replace the drag lifts on the Presena Glacier

presena drag liftsThe glacier will soon be the focus of a major redevelopment project that will involve replacing the Paradiso Presena chairlift and the two Presena Destro and Presena Sinistro drag lifts with a modern gondola rising from 2,585 m at Passo Paradiso to the top of the glacier, with a middle station at 2,729 m in altitude. Construction was originally scheduled to begin this summer, but due to bureaucratic delays it has been postponed until next year; this is a major project that will take a couple of years to complete, during which time the current ski lifts will continue to operate.

The Presena will therefore retire its old drag lifts to make way for a gondola—the very same solution chosen in Austria on the Stubai Glacier, where the gondola towers even rest directly on the ice.

There are also new developments on the way for the 2012–2013 winter season. Skiers will be able to enjoy a brand-new ski lift operated by the Sinval company: work is currently underway in the center of Passo Tonale to replace the Vittoria and Presanella drag lifts with a new 6-seater chairlift, the first of its kind in the Adamello Ski area. This modern, functional lift features two covered stations and an hourly capacity of 2,400 passengers. As the first 6-seater in the Adamello Ski resort, it will upgrade the wide area dedicated to the beginner slopes and ski club race courses. The slopes served by this new lift will also be graded to make the terrain even better suited to beginners and competitive race courses on the right-hand and left-hand slopes respectively.

In addition, the Carezze toboggan lift has been replaced by a drag lift that will allow beginners to get comfortable on the snow on an easy, safe run. Finally, a new magic carpet will be installed to the right of the new 6-seater chairlift, near the Fantaski area: this expands the offering for newcomers to skiing, as Tonale—thanks to its layout and wide, open slopes—is famously well suited for learning to ski.
