Val Thorens and Tignes will reopen their lifts on Saturday, November 21, 2026 for a season lasting more than five months that will run in the two French resorts in Savoie until Sunday, May 2, 2027. Tignes will kick off winter from the high elevations of the Grande Motte glacier with a special opening rate, while in Val Thorens the first weekend will coincide with the Grande Première gear tests, ahead of the opening of the major linked ski areas set for November 28 for Tignes and Val d’Isère and December 5 for Les Trois Vallées.

In the Val Thorens and Orelle ski area, where 99 percent of the skiable terrain sits above 2,000 meters with direct ski-in/ski-out access from the resort and 150 kilometers of runs at full capacity, lifts will operate daily starting November 21. Over the opening weekend of November 21 and 22, operating hours will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with ticket offices open at Le Forum, Les Olympiades, Funitel Péclet, and Cairn and Caron, while Place Caron will host the Grande Première featuring more than fifty ski, snowboard, ski touring, and freeride brands to test on the slopes.

To take part in the tests, skiers simply need a ski pass and can pre-register for a free test card to be picked up on site upon presentation of an ID, remembering to bring or rent their own boots and poles as these are not provided by the exhibitors. From Saturday, December 5 through April 18, the full 600-kilometer linked Les Trois Vallées domain will open, while those looking to stay right on the resort’s slopes with the Val Thorens and Orelle ski pass included can check out the Résidence Les Temples Du Soleil B (check prices and availability here).

In Tignes as well, the November 21 launch will start at high altitude on the Grande Motte, reached in seven minutes from Val Claret via the underground Perce-Neige funicular up to 3,032 meters and then by cable car to 3,456 meters at the highest point of the ski area. For the Opening weekend, the resort applies a single promotional rate of 50 euros on the daily ski pass, announcing the detailed list of open slopes and the status of valley-return runs such as the Double M run down to Val Claret during the preceding week.

Saturday, November 28 will then mark the progressive opening of the linked Tignes and Val d’Isère ski area, which at full capacity shares 300 kilometers of slopes reaching down to 1,550 meters at Les Brévières and in Val Claret makes it possible to pair accommodation near the funicular with an area-wide ski pass at the Résidence Rond Point Des Pistes B (see full offer details here).
