Heavy snowfalls at high altitude and low temperatures have made it possible to switch on the snowmaking systems across the entire Cortina ski area, both at high altitude and in the valley. On Friday, November 18, the Faloria Cable Car, the Vitelli Chairlift, and the Tondi Slope will open. Rifugio Faloria will also be open, where skiers can enjoy a refreshing break on the spacious terrace and take in the magnificent panoramic view over the Ampezzo valley and some of the most beautiful peaks of the Dolomites.
Snow conditions permitting, on November 26 the 5 Torri ski area will also open, allowing visitors to ski just steps away from the trenches of the First World War, which can also be visited in winter.
Following that, on December 3 the ski lifts of the Socrepes, Col Gallina, Tofana, and Cristallo areas will open, and by that date the Tofana-Freccia nel Cielo ski lifts will also open.
The Lagazuoi cable car will open on December 20, and two days later (weather permitting) on December 22, the Fedare-Giau chairlift, the Guargnè drag lift, and the Pocol area will also open.
Cortina will therefore be the first major ski area on the Dolomiti Superski circuit to open its doors (currently only the drag lift at Monte Croce – Alta Pusteria is running); however, if weather conditions permit, other ski areas will not be long in following suit and will open their doors very soon, bringing forward the start of the season just like the Veneto ski resort.
