Artificial snowmaking systems activated, preparing the base of the slopes

Solda snowmaking

solda snowmaking In the Alps, following the first natural snow, the first artificial snow of the season has also arrived. The long-awaited drop in temperatures has arrived and above 2,000 m the thermometer has plunged well below freezing once again, allowing artificial snowmaking systems to be switched on across several ski resorts.
Leading the way is Solda, where snow is being blown even in broad daylight; given the scarcity of natural snow, efforts are underway to make up for lost time and open the lifts as soon as possible—officially, the opening was scheduled for this Saturday, October 25, but unfortunately that will not be possible.

While Solda received only a light dusting of snow (partly due to the very cold temperatures), in the Dolomites snow fell down to medium-low altitudes; yesterday, as snow blanketed the runs of the Dolomiti Superski slopes, the snow cannons were switched on—a first test in preparation for the long artificial snowmaking marathon that will once again characterize the resorts of Trentino and Veneto this year.

The weather system has now given way to autumn sunshine, but freezing temperatures have remained, meaning that over the coming days high-altitude nights will continue to be frosty—a key ingredient to help our lift operator friends prepare the ski slopes as best as possible for us to enjoy this winter!
