Tough times for skiers. This year’s weather conditions are not helping snow and ski lovers. High temperatures, scarce precipitation, a climate that does not resemble a winter climate at all.
That is precisely why many ski lifts have already postponed the opening of the season, causing considerable damage to the sector.
La Thuile has now joined the list of all the lifts that have so far postponed the start of the winter season, putting back the opening of its lifts to December 7 (a date that coincides with the Sant’Ambrogio long weekend).
Although the snow guns have in fact been running for several days now, artificial snow alone is not enough to guarantee a good base. The weather forecasts, however, give cause for hope. From December 2 to 6, in fact, a significant drop in temperatures and heavy snowfall are forecast, which will be essential to create the perfect conditions for opening the slopes and, above all, to offer skiers high-quality snow to enjoy.
Despite the forced “rest” of the slopes, however, La Thuile will not sit still waiting for December 7.
On Saturday, December 3, in fact, from 17:00, the streets of the centre will come alive with a market of handcrafted products for the big En Amitiè Hiver festival. An atmosphere full of flavours, colours and aromas will welcome visitors, who will be able to discover all the typical Aosta Valley products or relax in one of the bars in the centre while waiting to dive onto the snow-covered slopes.
Shopkeepers, artisans and restaurateurs will in fact be exhibiting typical products, which can be bought and tasted.
La Thuile will thus host a big food and wine event, enlivened until late in the evening by live music, which will bring tasty mountain flavours through the streets of the town and within reach of all visitors.
So although the weather conditions have not so far helped those who love snow and skiing and, consequently, all the mountain resorts that were anxiously awaiting the season opening, there are excellent signs of a rapid recovery, and above all events and festivities that keep the winter spirit alive while we wait to ski on all the most beautiful slopes.
