Bormio reopens its slopes on November 15

After some back and forth, we can confirm that the news is well founded: Bormio will reopen its slopes as early as November 15.

This is a much earlier opening compared to other ski resorts, which on average reopen their doors around the first days of December.

The news comes as somewhat of a surprise, as snow coverage is rarely well advanced in mid-November and temperatures can also play tricks.

It is also true that on November 15 Bormio will only open the slopes running from 3000m above sea level down to 2400m above sea level, so there should be no issues regarding temperatures, even if some doubts remain about the snowpack.

Bormio assures that the slopes will be skiable thanks in part to the artificial snowmaking system covering all the slopes involved.

A decision that nonetheless catches rival ski resorts off guard as well, though apparently this move is prompted by the fact that the Stelvio glacier slopes will close on the All Saints’ Day weekend, leaving a gap that Bormio intends to fill with its early opening.

We will wait and see whether weather conditions favor the ski area or turn this unusual decision to reopen the ski lifts early into a setback.
