There are still a few months to go before the start of the winter season, but work on the Verena is continuing non-stop. Workers have been busily at it for a few months now, preparing the ground and installing the new Verena chairlift.
The Ski Area Verena is continuing its chain of investments, which in recent years have brought several improvements to the ski area. After the new ski slopes, the new nursery area and the new mountain hut at the base of the lifts, the time has now come for the Ski Area Verena to turn its attention to the lifts.
The new chairlift under construction will replace the old surface lift called “sciovia verenetta”, located right at the base of the lifts, more precisely at the foot of the “panoramica” slope.
The chairlift being installed is a brand-new Leitner two-seater with a loading carpet, with a speed of 2.8 m/s.
The new lift will cover the same distance as the surface lift, with the difference that the 1,000 m length will now take only 5 minutes to ride up. The slopes served will be the “Panoramica” and the “direttissima”, also known as the “centrale” since it lies right in the centre of the ski area.
As well as increasing the hourly capacity of the lifts and speeding up the ride uphill, the new chairlift will allow ski school instructors to make full use of the “panoramica” slope, which is the best of all for skiers and snowboarders taking their first steps after leaving the nursery area. Thanks to the new chairlift, it will no longer be necessary to go all the way up to the 2,020 m of Cima Verena, so beginners will be able to avoid the steeper first section.
Another advantage is that the area served by the new lift is less exposed to the sun, so the snow lasts longer here; in addition, the whole run is covered by snowmaking systems, so the ski season could be extended by a few weeks thanks to favourable snow conditions even in the event of scarce snowfall or high temperatures.
Progress of the works:
The construction site is well advanced and the lift will be completed by the end of autumn, so as to be operational as early as the opening date of the winter season (scheduled for late November/early December).
After the removal of the surface lift structures, work is now under way on preparing the ground; in the meantime, Leitner has already delivered part of the structure, and some pylons and other components are already in the ski area’s large car park.
We went to the Verena and took some photos too, which you can find here on the page New Verena Chairlift Photos
