Kitzbühel ski lifts
This summer has seen a major investment drive by Kitzbühel, the Austrian Cortina, which has renewed its ski lifts at a cost of 26 million euros.
The investment has led to the opening of construction sites for two high-speed chairlifts, which will bring the ski area’s total hourly capacity to 75,000 skiers per hour. (more or less the hourly capacity of Plan de Corones).
Besides serving a larger number of skiers, the new lifts will make the ride up more comfortable thanks to heated seats, a feature that many ski lifts have adopted lately.
The first lift will be a 6-seater chairlift built by Leitner, replacing an old lift that in recent years had drawn many complaints against the ski area. This 6-seater will, on its own, be able to serve as many as 2,400 skiers per hour.
The new Ochsalm chairlift, meanwhile, will be Kitzbühel’s third 8-seater chairlift. With weather-protection covers and heated seats, it will replace a 30-year-old lift and will be able to carry 3,300 people per hour.
These 2 new lifts are part of a modernisation project that Kitzbühel began a few years ago, replacing its oldest chairlifts and gondola lifts year after year in order to increase the resort’s tourist capacity and make getting back up the mountain even more comfortable and faster.
