Sölden opens the Giggijoch on November 6: first slopes in the winter ski area

From Friday, the Giggijoch gondola and the Silberbrünnl chairlift go into operation, along with piste 13. Skiing is already under way on the glaciers; among the changes this winter is the new Gratl.

On Friday, November 6, Sölden opens the Giggijoch to skiers. The ten-seater gondola that climbs from the village, the eight-seater Silberbrünnl chairlift and piste 13 are the first lifts and the first run announced by the operator for the start of the winter ski area. The Giggijoch restaurant will also open.

For anyone heading to the Tyrolean resort in November, this adds one more option to days on the Rettenbach and Tiefenbach glaciers, where the season has already begun. The new sector makes it possible to ski on the Giggijoch again, while the offer will gradually be extended to the other mountainsides as the pistes and lifts are prepared.

From the glaciers to the first runs on the Giggijoch

The opening announced for November 6 concerns one specific sector: the access gondola, the Silberbrünnl and piste number 13. This is where skiing starts to expand across Sölden’s mountains, although it does not yet mean that the entire winter ski area or all the connections are open.

The two glaciers also remain available. The Rettenbach offers steeper slopes with red and black pistes, while the Tiefenbach has gentler, wider terrain. The two high-altitude areas are linked by the Schwarze Schneid ski tunnel: this is the terrain on which autumn skiing was concentrated before this first extension to the Giggijoch.

The Sölden piste map helps you locate the different sectors; when choosing where to spend the day, the operator’s lift and piste report remains the reference, as it keeps the list of available pistes and lifts up to date. The opening is in fact proceeding sector by sector, as the snow base and conditions allow new runs to be added.

A new Gratl on the Gaislachkogl

Winter 2026/27 will also bring changes on the Gaislachkogl, where the new six-seater Gratl chairlift replaces the two-seater that served this slope for around forty years. The project includes protective bubbles, a ride time of about 4.2 minutes and a capacity of 2,300 people per hour.

The top station is being moved to 2,500 m, and the work includes a new blue piste, 1b, along with an upgrade to the snowmaking. It is one of the season’s new features and is separate from the Giggijoch opening announced for Friday: the Gratl is not among the lifts in operation in the November 6 schedule.
