Summer Skiing 2015: ski lifts open at Passo Stelvio

Stelvio Glacier summer 2015

Stelvio Glacier summer 2015At Passo Stelvio a new ski season is about to begin, and everything is ready to welcome skiers and snowboarders from all over Italy and beyond.

From its altitude of 2700 meters, Passo dello Stelvio is preparing for a new summer dedicated to summer skiing: here, the glacier reachable by cable car makes it possible to ski even during the hot months of July and August, while on other peaks skiing gives way to trekking and mountain biking.

In this corner bordering two countries and two regions, winter is the time for sowing: the abundant snow that falls replenishes the glacier, which only awakens in late spring when tourism operators head up to take stock and see how much snow can be counted on for the upcoming summer season.

The 2014/15 winter brought average precipitation, setting neither positive nor negative records, but spring delivered pleasant surprises, especially in May when snow returned to center stage and refreshed the landscape once again.

Following cold temperatures and heavy snowfalls at Passo dello Stelvio, 2015 summer skiing can begin with extraordinary snow conditions. Snow clearing continued until just a few days ago due to the snowfalls; now that road access has been restored, the Glacier offers mid-winter skiing conditions—a picture-perfect start to the season.
