The Atlantic storm system that brought snow to the Italian mountains over the past few days also hit Slovenia, and in particular the border area between Friuli Venezia Giulia and Slovenia. We are talking about Mount Canin (spelled Kanin in Slovenian), one of the snowiest ski resorts in the Alps.
On Mount Canin, 90 cm of snow has been recorded, allowing the lifts to open this weekend ahead of the official schedule. The ski area straddles the border between Italy and Slovenia, and it is the Slovenian side—reached from the town of Bovec—that is opening its lifts over the next few days.
Skiing is open on November 10–11–12 (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) with ski lifts running from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The first skiers of the season will have access to the Sedlo and Prevala slopes as well as the Podi surface lift.
For this special early opening, the daily skipass will cost just €20, while children under 10 ski for free.
Given the changeable weather conditions in the area, it is advisable to check for live updates on the official website kanin.si
The Italian side of Sella Nevea, meanwhile, remains closed for now.
