Snowing in the Alps and Apennines, snow line dropping toward 1000m

Snow in the Alps and Apennines

snow alps apenninesHere we go again: more snow is on its way to the Alps and Apennines. Following the heavy snowfalls that had a very high snow line, the Alps are gearing up for a snowy Monday with a new weather system that is already blanketing the ski resorts of the Aosta Valley and Piedmont.

Unlike previous storms, snow will also reach lower elevations down to 1000 meters above sea level—a major change given that up to now these altitudes had only seen rain.

Heavy snowfalls are also expected at medium altitudes, particularly in the Alps—worth noting because it is already snowing in the Apennines as well across Tuscany and Emilia, with the first snowflakes falling on Abetone and Monte Cimone.
The new front will bring snow throughout the day before tapering off in the early hours of Tuesday as high pressure returns.

We are all waiting eagerly, hoping to see every Alpine and Apennine valley blanketed in white so that the ski season can get underway as soon as possible!
