summer skiing 2014 passo dello stelvioLike every winter season worthy of the name, Passo dello Stelvio has stocked up on snow and is now awaiting the arrival of summer to kick off the 2014 ski season.

From the 2,700-meter altitude of the Pass up to over 3,000 meters on the glacier, the snows of the Stelvio welcome tourists and athletes from all over the world right in the middle of summer, offering ski slopes where you can have just as much fun as in midwinter.

At Italy’s last bastion of summer skiing at Passo Stelvio, preparations are in full swing for the new season, which will officially begin on Saturday, May 31 with the opening of the lifts.
Snow-clearing operations have already begun and snowplows are carving their way through walls of snow—a lengthy operation that must also be completed to allow the passage of the Ponte di Legno–Val Martello stage of the 2014 Giro d’Italia.

Snowfalls were abundant this winter too, and snowcats are in action on the glacier as well to free the ski lifts from the enormous mass of snow and groom the ski slopes and snowpark. Even during these days in May, snow has not left the resort: snowfalls are still hitting both the glacier and the pass, and for a few more weeks the resort will be able to count on abundant spring snowfalls.

All that is left to do is wait for the start of a magnificent new summer season with skis on your feet!
