Summer Skiing: Glaciers Buried Under Snow! Slopes in Perfect Condition

This year may well be the best summer ever for summer skiing. It has been years since the glaciers got ready to face the summer with such an abundant supply of snow, and most of this snow fell right in the spring. After a disastrous winter for the ski resorts, though an average one for the glaciers, this spring has been marked by low temperatures and a constant stream of weather fronts which, at the highest altitudes (above 2,900/3,000 meters), have always meant heavy snowfall.
The most recent one blanketed the Alpine glaciers with another 50 cm of fresh snow this morning: from the Stelvio to Val Senales, from Deux Alpes to Hintertux, it’s a real snow party!

About 50 centimeters of snow fell at 3,000 meters on the Stelvio, where this morning it felt like a day in the depths of winter; 40 cm of snow also fell on the glacier in Val Senales, where the snowfall reached down to 2,500 m and 2 meters of snow are measured up top.
In the last few hours snow has also fallen in France, both in Deux Alpes and in Tignes, and this morning it fell heavily in Austria too, especially in Hintertux, where this afternoon the thermometer read -6.5 degrees at 3,200 m (ideal after a good snowfall).

For the coming days the sun and fine weather are expected to return, and the magnificent snow conditions will act like a magnet, drawing hundreds of skiers and snowboarders eager to try out slopes in wintry conditions in the middle of June.

The heavy snowfall and low temperatures of recent weeks have allowed the glaciers to stock up on snow (Hintertux has 310 cm of snow up top this season and Val Senales almost 2 meters): this bodes very well for summer skiing, which can now get off to a flying start in fairytale conditions!

If you too feel like getting your skis back on, check out this interesting offer for a summer ski week in Hintertux!

Enjoy getting back on your skis, and on your snowboard!
