There are still an impressive 6 meters of snow on the Stubai Glacier in Austria.
Stubai is one of the best-known Austrian resorts and a favorite among Italian skiers and snowboarders; reachable in less than an hour’s drive from the Brenner Pass, it is one of the closest ski resorts for skiing in Austria.
Having Stubai so close to the Italian border is a huge advantage because it allows you to ski until June and beyond in one of the snowiest ski areas in the Alps.
The Stubai Glacier complex links 5 different glaciers together, making it one of the largest glacier ski areas in all of Austria.
6 meters of snow
This winter saw Austria take center stage for winter snowfalls; a massive amount of snow fell here during the winter, and it shows!
The snow report lists a full 6 meters of snow on the Stubai Glacier—phenomenal conditions considering we are nearly in mid-May.
Having this much snow is certainly nothing new for Stubai, where you could once ski all summer long. Today, summer skiing continues until June 10, allowing the glacier snowpack to rest beneath geotextile sheets that slow down snowmelt.
This cold spring is helping the glacier preserve the snow that fell during the winter, which is why there is still a 600 cm snow base.
23 km of slopes still open
As we write this article, there are around 23 km of open and perfectly skiable slopes in Stubai!
We are the first to advise taking this figure with a grain of salt and checking the official website for live updates; however, snow conditions are so good that most of these runs will likely remain skiable right up until closing day.
Lifts open until June 10
The lifts on the Stubai Glacier remain open until June 10; you will be able to ski every day of the week without interruption until that date, with the adult daily skipass price set at €40.80.
The Stubai ski area will therefore be one of the few open and skiable resorts this May, and above all one of the very few open anywhere in the Alps during the first weeks of June.

Spectacular snow conditions in Stubai
Snowpark Open
Stubai is one of the top destinations for freestylers from around the world and, above all, one of the few Alpine resorts where the snowpark stays open into the early summer months. Currently, the “Snowpark Easy & Medium-Line” + “Snowpark Pro-Line” are open.
On May 5, a full 50 cm of fresh snow fell, and the weather forecast could bring even more snow over the coming days, so snowboarders have everything they need to have fun even in the middle of May and June.
Beyond skiing
Another important feature of Stubai is that it is also a great destination for non-skiers.
Thanks to the lifts, you can ride up to high altitude to admire the scenery from the panoramic viewing platform at over 3,000 meters above sea level, go snowshoeing on the glacier snows, and above all step into the heart of the glacier to visit the ice cave carved into the glacier.
It is an atmospheric place that is an absolute must-see!

Another interesting sight is the impressive Grawa Fall waterfall, one of the most fascinating waterfalls in the Austrian Tyrol, and right nearby is the Grawa Alm mountain hut, which is always open and serves great food.
