Spring has already arrived and the days are getting sunnier and warmer. The spring sun is warming the ski resorts too, and skiing is inexorably moving up to higher altitudes. Skiing in spring is a spectacle: snow and sun create a perfect mix that makes skiing not just a wonderful sport but also a way to admire the surrounding landscapes and get in touch with nature.
There are ski resorts where skiing is at its very best precisely in spring; they are often at medium to high altitude and offer skiers and snowboarders optimal conditions even as temperatures rise. With this email we want to point out the resorts that, in our opinion, are the best for anyone who wants to treat themselves to a ski week or a weekend in the snow.
Upper Engadine – Switzerland
The Upper Engadine is in Switzerland, in the canton of Graubünden, and is one of the most fascinating areas of the country. Famous as the home of St. Moritz, this valley has a lot to offer visitors thanks to well over 300 km of ski runs and several ski areas within everyone’s reach. The medium-high altitude, from 1,500 m to over 3,000 m, guarantees perfect snow cover until the first days of May. March is therefore one of the best times to visit this corner of skiing paradise, and in fact the tourist board itself has created a dedicated offer with discounts of up to 30%
Cervinia – Aosta Valley
We stay in the north-west, but on Italian soil: one of the most charming and ideal resorts for spring skiing is Cervinia. With its high base altitude and ski runs that reach the foot of the magnificent Matterhorn, this Aosta Valley resort is certainly one of the best destinations for having fun on the snow under the rays of the warm spring sun. And in the evening, after a great day’s skiing, you can rest and relax in the many spas down in the valley.
Livigno – Lombardy
How could we not include Little Tibet among the favourite destinations for spring skiing? Here too the base altitude is around 2,000 m and the lifts reach 3,000 m; the wide open spaces and the abundance of snow make Livigno one of the busiest ski areas in Italy.
Alta Pusteria – Trentino Alto Adige
Unlike other Alpine resorts, Val Pusteria has had a normal winter with steady snowfall, which has kept the ski runs in good condition. Thanks also to the north-facing aspect of many runs, Val Pusteria offers an excellent ski area for skiing in the spring sunshine. What’s more, the whole valley offers accommodation specialising in wellness, ideal for anyone who wants to unplug and relax in the natural surroundings of the Dolomites.
Carinthia – Austria
Last but not least, we recommend Carinthia, a ski region of Austria bordering the Italian side. Nature’s reawakening gives visitors the chance to put their skis on and enjoy the splendid Austrian landscapes. All the runs are served by state-of-the-art ski lifts, and the villages in the valleys are full of opportunities to have fun and relax after a long day on the slopes.
