In Val Gardena it’s just a few minutes to go until the Alpine Ski World Cup: today (Friday, December 16) the super G takes center stage, while tomorrow (Saturday, December 17) it will be the Downhill’s turn.
The Saslong is ready to host the athletes after proper preparation over the past few days, thanks to artificial snow and the little natural snow that fell on Val Gardena in recent days.
Although snow was forecast for today, for now it hasn’t started falling yet; the temperature is between -4 and -1 degrees and the organizers are anxiously watching how the weather develops. At the start of the race (12:15) it could start snowing or the course could be shrouded in fog, so it’s hard to decide whether it’s better to start earlier or later.
There will be 8 Italian athletes taking on the snow of Val Gardena: Christof Innerhofer, Werner Heel, Peter Fill, Siegmar Klotz, Hagen Patscheider, Matteo Marsaglia, Patrick Staudacher and Mattia Casse.
Christof Innerhofer is not in top form and the other athletes haven’t achieved great results in their latest outings either; however, this is a technical stop where the Italians could surprise.
The ski fans who have come up to Val Gardena are eagerly awaiting the opening of the start gate at 12:15. Tomorrow, at the same time, it will be the Downhill.
