Yesterday in Milan, during the press conference presenting the Walter Fontana Trophy organized by the non-profit organization “Cancro Primo Aiuto”—which includes snow sports races at all levels on the slopes of Valtellina—the two men’s Alpine Ski World Cup events were also unveiled.
On December 28 on the Deborah Compagnoni slope in S. Caterina Valfurva (Sondrio), the downhill race is scheduled to take place, followed the next day by the alpine combined—held last season in Kitzbühel (Austria)—consisting of a super-G and a slalom run. Skiing is already underway in S. Caterina, and six European Cup slalom races are scheduled on the slope from yesterday through next Saturday.
The press conference held at Palazzo Lombardia was attended by regional councillors Antonio Rossi (Sport) and Viviana Beccalossi (Territory), FISI President Flavio Roda, Marco Rocca from Livigno, Maurizio Gandolfi on behalf of the World Cup organizing committee, and race director Omar Galli.
Gandolfi highlighted the exceptional readiness of Alta Valtellina for the World Cup: “No other resort can boast two top-level slopes like Bormio and S. Caterina within the space of a few kilometers. In the near future we would like to return to Bormio, while knowing we can always count on S. Caterina for its peerless weather conditions, which are a true guarantee.”
