Avalanche in the Himalayas: mountaineer Alberto Magliano killed

Alberto Magliano

Mount Manaslu Base CampA new tragedy has been added to the history of Italian mountaineering. Overnight, an avalanche swept through the base camp of Mount Manaslu (8,163 m – Himalayas), where the tents of 35 climbers from the expedition led by Silvio Mondinelli (the King of the Eight-Thousanders) were pitched.
The avalanche hit everyone, though several climbers, including Mondinelli, were thrown clear and managed to survive. They immediately rushed to help their companions buried under the snow, digging through the snowpack as the darkness of night and bitter cold created further complications.
The first rescue teams arrived only 4 hours later, proceeding to rescue those still trapped in the snow.

Sadly, the toll is deeply tragic: 13 dead, including Italian mountaineer Alberto Magliano.
Nothing could be done to save him and his Sherpa, as recounted by his expedition partner Mondinelli, who could only recover his body from the Himalayan snow.

This time death was not caused by a technical mistake or an error of judgment, but purely by fate, by destiny…
Below is the video featuring Mondinelli’s account of what happened:
