A few months ago we published the list of the Dolomiti Superski ski areas with their respective lift opening dates. The dates confirmed the approach taken last year: no sensational openings, but rather dates carefully planned on the basis of the real snow conditions of the ski resorts.
However, these late-autumn months have not gone the way they should have, and the snow has not arrived. While last year all the ski areas kept to their opening dates, this year the snow conditions will not allow it.
Several ski resorts will have to give up the start of the season planned for this weekend. Nevertheless, Dolomiti Superski will open its doors anyway on Saturday November 26, thanks to a few ski areas which, with their high altitude and modern snowmaking systems, will be able to kick off the ski season on the announced dates.
Among these are one ski area in Veneto (Faloria in Cortina) and 3 in South Tyrol (Plan de Corones, Alta Badia and Sesto).

Plan de Corones, November 24
Cortina Faloria:
this is the highest ski area of the Cortina ski resort, and the Faloria slopes are famous for their excellent natural snow cover. However, unlike other years, when the season started around mid-November, this year this corner of the Dolomites has also suffered from the scarce natural snowfall and has only managed to remedy the situation thanks to snowmaking.
The lifts open will be the Faloria cable car and the Vitelli chairlift, and the Tondi di Faloria slope will be available to skiers. During the first days of opening it will also be possible to benefit from a 20% discount on the list price of the Cortina d’Ampezzo ski pass.
Plan de Corones:
The panettone-shaped mountain is keeping its promises and will kick off the ski season on Saturday November 26. The 2,200 m of the Kronplatz summit were not enough to guarantee natural snow cover, and so, to save the start of the season, the sophisticated snowmaking system covering the entire ski area went into action. The result was good, so much so that Plan de Corones will be the Dolomiti Superski ski area opening the largest number of lifts and slopes.
From Saturday November 26 the Miara, Ruis, Alpen 2, Olang 1, Olang 2, Kronplatz 1, Kronplatz 2 and Korer lifts will be open. There will be 3 slopes available: the Miara slope, the Olang 2 slope and the Korer slope.
Alta Badia
Alta Badia will not officially open its lifts, but the Dolomiti Superski consortium reports that the Baby Pedraces slope will be open for the weekend of November 26-27 only.
Sesto
The most important ski resort in Alta Pusteria confirms its opening date of November 26. The lifts open will be Kreuzberg I, Kreuzberg I/bis and Signaue, with the corresponding 2 slopes, Kreuzberg 1 and Signaue. The opening was helped by the location of the slopes: the first to open are in fact the slopes of Passo Monte Croce, famous for being one of the coldest spots in the ski area.
For the openings of the other ski areas we will have to wait until the first weekend of December, snow permitting.
