The 2012/2013 winter season on the Stubai Glacier opens with major new developments. Thanks to an investment of around 12 million euros, Austria’s largest skiable glacier has expanded its offering with a focus on fun and comfort. New challenges await demanding skiers, while plenty of added comfort will be offered to all visitors thanks to the construction of 2 new chairlifts that allow skiers to reach 3,000 meters in altitude in optimal comfort and explore new slopes.
The old four-passenger Rotadl gondola will be replaced by an 8-seater chairlift with upholstered, heated seats and weather-protection bubbles. Departing near the Gamsgarten station, the new lift will cover 1,355 meters in just 5 minutes and carry up to 3,000 passengers per hour to Daunferner, one of the widest and most family-popular areas of the Stubaier Gletscher ski resort.
Meanwhile, the 4-seater Daunjoch chairlift has been designed to expand the boundaries of the ski area. Measuring 1,197 meters in length, the lift will carry expert skiers and freeriders up to 3,000 meters in altitude to drop into the new Black Daunhill run, a 3.2-kilometer black slope with a 60% gradient descending the flanks of the Daunjoch all the way down to the valley at the Mutterberg station.
The Rotadl chairlift will go into operation in mid-October, while the Daunjoch chairlift is scheduled to open at the end of November.
