Every year the Madonna di Campiglio ski area never misses a chance to give skiing enthusiasts new ways to have fun, extending its skiable terrain and adding new ski lifts. This year it is the turn of the north-eastern side of the ski area, the 5 Laghi zone, the most central part of the ski area, which gains three new runs and a new chairlift.
The jewel in the crown of Madonna di Campiglio’s new features is the new “Pancugolo” run, with a more challenging first section (maximum gradient 69% and average 35%) served by the new “Pancugolo” four-seater chairlift, and a second, intermediate section that joins the legendary “Canalone Miramonti”, which ends in the centre of the village. Joining the two runs “Pancugolo” and “Miramonti” creates a single 1,700 m run that can be homologated for World Cup Super-G and which, together with the slalom, has everything it takes to ensure the regular return of World Cup ski races to Madonna di Campiglio.
Among the works under way in the 5 Laghi zone are two further runs called “Nambino” and “Raccordo Pancugolo”. The “Nambino” run branches off the “Fis 3Tre” run to reach the Nambino area, making it easier to connect with the Pradalago area and the rest of the Campiglio ski area. This 1,280 m-long run is an attractive option for the average skier, who will prefer to take the new “red” run rather than going down the easy “5 Laghi” run and crossing the flat Patascoss tunnel (the whole project will be completed next year).
Finally, the “Raccordo Pancugolo” run, which starts at 2,080 m and is served by the “Pancugolo” chairlift, is a less demanding alternative to the black “Pancugolo” run, located on the opposite slope.
The 5 Laghi development plan has two main aims: firstly, to expand the racing offer of Madonna di Campiglio, which in recent years has hosted
the men’s European Cup slalom and on December 18, 2012 will once again host the Giant Slalom World Cup; and secondly, to offer the flow of skiers arriving via the lift link with Pinzolo good alternatives to the existing runs, making it easier to reach the Pradalago area.
