Until a few years ago it was an Italian summer skiing destination, but unfortunately increasingly hot summers forced the resort to let the glacier rest during the summer months, which had become ever harder to cope with due to rapid snowmelt.
This “summer” of 2014, however, has been marked by low temperatures and recurring snowfalls even in the middle of July and August—quotation marks around the word summer are a must, given that even in the past few hours the glacier has received more fresh snow.
It is precisely the well-below-average temperatures left by a summer that never arrived, combined with the abundant snowfall of last winter’s season, that have allowed the lift company to schedule the opening for September 19, 2014.
A season restarting well ahead of other ski resorts, though it will officially kick off on October 3 with the grand opening and a series of dedicated events.
Given the autumnal weather and fresh snow at high altitude, all that is left to do is wax your skis and get ready for a fantastic new winter season!
