On Sunday morning at Sega Digon in Val Comelico, a hazy sky greeted the 90 teams registered for the seventh edition of the Pitturina Ski Race, a team ski mountaineering race included in the Coppa delle Dolomiti calendar. At high altitude, however, a clear sky awaited the passage of the athletes. Finally, splendid sunshine welcomed the victorious arrival of Filippo Beccari teamed up with Roberto De Simone, who with raised arms stopped the clock at 2:22’48”. In the women’s field there was a fine performance by Elisa Compagnoni and Federica Osler, who won ahead of Friuli’s Monica Sartogo and Anna Finizio.

Right after the start, the battle began between the pair Beccari-De Simone and Thomas Trettel-Ivo Zulian. Trettel-Zulian led the race until the second climb when the winners of the FISI Marmotta Trophy race held on Saturday took the lead, holding first place all the way to the finish line. Beccari-De Simone crossed the finish line thus inscribing their names on the roll of honour of the race organized by the Spiquy Team; behind them, about four minutes back, Trettel-Zulian confirmed second place. Finishing in third place were Lois Craffonara and Michael Moling. To conquer the third step of the podium, Craffonara and Moling had to battle, swapping positions several times, with Marco Del Missier and Paolo Meizinger and with Enrico Frescura and Elia Della Pietra.

Among the women, the pair formed by Elisa Compagnoni and Federica Osler led from the early stages of the race ahead of Monica Sartogo and Anna Finizio. On the long climbs the Valtellina and Trentino athletes prevailed, reaching the finish line with a nine-minute lead over the athletes from US Aldo Moro.

«It was a “historic” edition – said Michele Festini, coordinator of the Organizing Committee – with the Pitturina Ski Race we wanted to commemorate the tragic events of the First World War that took place right on the peaks and ridges that the athletes covered during this seventh edition. Furthermore, we had confirmation that our choices, the zero-mile race pack and the gathering at Casera Pianformaggio, were appreciated. During the race, around seventy people climbed up to Casera Pianformaggio to cheer on the competitors, as well as to spend a few hours in friendship and serenity. Finally, I must thank all my volunteers who once again with their work made the Pitturina unforgettable».
