As we write, snow continues to fall across the entire Alpine Arc from West to East, blanketing all ski resorts in white even at low altitudes.
As announced, the weather front that arrived on Wednesday brought plenty of fresh snow to many ski resorts; accumulations exceed 50 cm in many ski stations above 1,000 meters, and at high altitude, once the storm has passed, it could exceed one meter.
A real blessing that secures the ski season for the month of February and beyond. Snow also reached the plains, blanketing cities like Milan and Turin, but it is in the high mountains that the snowfalls truly unleashed their force, with resorts like Prato Nevoso and Prali literally buried under snow.
Plenty of snow also in Trentino Alto Adige; in the Dolomites 30 to 50 cm of snow have been recorded, and the same goes for the entire Prealpine sector, with heavy snow falling even below 1,000 meters of altitude.
Saturday and Sunday with sunshine
We are now in the final stages of this weather front, which in the coming hours will leave the Alps and fine weather will return; during Friday night the snowfall will gradually subside until disappearing completely across the entire Alpine arc in the early hours of Saturday.
The weekend will therefore be marked by sunshine and fine weather, with slopes perfectly covered thanks to the fresh snow.
Half a meter of snow will not only help improve snow coverage on the slopes, but also restore the winter landscape to the Alps, meaning that this weekend could be one of the best opportunities to go skiing.
Ski lifts and accommodation facilities are well aware of this and are ready to welcome thousands of skiers onto the ski slopes; a full house is expected across all major ski resorts and beyond.
All that remains is to get our gear ready and head up to the mountains to ski on the best snow of this 2014/15 winter.
