January 2, 2014 brought a white awakening, with snowflakes falling even where only rain fell at Christmas. Snow arrived overnight and is affecting all Alpine sectors and parts of the Apennines with varying intensity.
It is now snowing in Montecampione in Lombardy and Lavarone in Trentino as well—resorts that in recent days had to rely on artificial snowmaking and start slope preparation almost from scratch.

However, this weather system is just a taste of what awaits us between Saturday and Sunday, when a new Super Snowfall will hit Italy.
The Super Snowfall arriving in the coming days will be similar to the Boxing Day storm that brought a full 1 meter of Snow in less than 24 hours.
Heavy snowfalls are forecast especially across the central Alps and particularly above 1,500 meters, where up to 50 cm of fresh snow could fall.
The snow line will remain low: snowflakes down to 750 meters in the north-west, and snowfalls at slightly higher elevations in the north-east with snow starting from 1,000-1,300 meters.
We will still have to wait for bitter cold and snow on the plains, but the ski season will continue in great style thanks to these early 2014 snowfalls.
Happy snowy New Year to everyone!
