Via Lattea, ski lifts open on Friday, December 6

Sestriere ski lift opening

The opening of the ski season in the Vialattea ski area is scheduled, snow conditions permitting, for Friday, December 6. This is the date set by the ski area linking the resorts of Sestriere, Sauze d’Oulx, Claviere, Cesana, Sansicario, Pragelato, and Montgenèvre.
Piedmont’s largest ski hub is having to cope with a rather unusual start to the season in terms of snowfall.

20-30 cm of snow on the ground is not enough for an early opening, so the programmed snowmaking systems are working to make up for it and ensure the opening for the Immaculate Conception long weekend.

Nevertheless, the lift company reserves the right, should conditions allow, to schedule an early opening for Saturday, November 30 and Sunday, December 1.

With eyes turned to the sky waiting for the white stuff, the weather forecast is on the skiers’ side, as a weather system arriving this very week is set to bring snow back to the Alps and to the slopes of the Via Lattea.
