Update of November 20, 2012: the Faloria Ski Area announces the new lift opening date; read the “re-updated” article below for more info
The “Pearl of the Dolomites” is also getting ready for the new ski season, scheduling the opening of the ski lifts for Thursday, November 22 thanks to the Faloria Ski Area, the highest in the entire Belluno ski region.
Last winter was one of the most difficult in recent years in terms of snow cover; scarce snow and thermal inversion forced Cortina into a subdued season with slopes covered exclusively in artificial snow from start to finish.
At the start of this 2012 season, the Faloria Ski Area also had to contend with precarious weather conditions: despite good snowfalls early in the month that had raised hopes for an early opening of the lifts, the management company Cortina Cube was forced to postpone the opening originally scheduled for November 16.
High temperatures had made the slopes unskiable and the weather forecast showed no signs of improvement.
Now, however, the weather issue has passed and Cortina too is ready to kick off the new winter: starting Thursday, November 22, 2012, skiers will be able to ski on the Tondi slope and ride up to high altitude with the Faloria cable car and the Vitelli chairlift, with the ski pass priced at €30
