At high altitude, fun is guaranteed: heading up to 3,000 meters are skiers who cannot wait for the winter season, as well as numerous ski clubs and racing teams taking advantage of the excellent snow conditions to resume training sessions and get ready for the upcoming winter season.
However, as we know, this is a summer ski resort: harsh weather conditions make this area very difficult to reach in winter due to heavy snowfalls and bitter cold that prevent snow clearing. Passo Stelvio is therefore heading toward the end of its 2012 season, with lift closing scheduled for November 4, 2012 (the last skiable day).
The traditional closing date has been confirmed, right in time for the All Saints’ Day long weekend and before the big November snowfalls.
The slopes will be open every day until then, and skiers will find runs in excellent condition—perhaps the best across the entire Alpine arc. Fresh snow and optimal temperatures ensure spectacular skiing from morning through afternoon: mid-winter conditions already in late October.
In our view, it is one of the best places to strap your skis back on considering the snow conditions at other resorts; the Stelvio is certainly offering very appealing slopes for anyone who loves “winter snow”
