Ski lift closings

Final Ski Weekend, mid-winter snow conditions

After a troubled start to the season, this 2015-16 winter seems determined never to end. Now the ski season is coming to a close even in the high-altitude resorts that traditionally extend their lift operations until the end of April, with the last day of skiing scheduled for May 1. Among these are several Italian ski resorts such as Cortina d’Ampezzo, which thanks to the Faloria ski area offers well-snow-covered slopes until late in the season, or the Val Senales and Adamello Ski areas, which can count on a glacier, as well as other particularly snowy and cold resorts like Solda and Livigno.

Sunday, May 1 will be the last day for skiing—here are the open ski resorts:

Cortina d’Ampezzo
Snow conditions are excellent on the Faloria slopes; here the season has never stopped and right up until closing day (May 1) you can be sure of skiing in wintry conditions and landscapes.

Val Senales
Once a summer ski destination, today the Val Senales glacier offers the opportunity to ski in spring with mid-winter snow conditions; here the lifts will remain open until Sunday, May 8.

Solda
With recent snowfalls, the South Tyrolean resort has stocked up on snow and closes its season with a winter landscape even in the valley and not just at high altitude, with lifts open until Sunday, May 1.

Cervinia
An endless ski season for Cervinia, which thanks to the abundant snowfalls of mid-April will be able to keep its lifts open even in the month of May with special weekend openings. The lifts will remain open every day until May 1, and will then reopen on the May weekends of 7-8, 14-15, and 21-22.

Livigno
Even for “Little Tibet” the ski season is drawing to a close; after several seasons with meters of snow on the slopes, this year the Valtellina resort also suffered from the early-season drought, and only well into winter did the slopes become snow-covered again, though without ever recording record snowfalls.
Although in recent weeks snow has whitened its peaks once again, Sunday, May 1 will be the last day for skiing in Livigno.

Adamello Ski
Thanks to the Presena glacier, the Adamello Ski area has been able to extend its ski season until May 1 (last opening day), with skiing from 3000 meters at Passo Presena down to 2585 m at Passo Paradiso; thanks to recent snowfalls, snow conditions are like mid-winter.

Macugnaga
The small ski resort at the foot of Monte Rosa confirms its special opening for Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1; skiing will be available on the slopes of Monte Moro, where more fresh snow has fallen in recent days.

These are the ski resorts open until May 1 in Italy, but for those willing to cross the border and ski abroad the choice is even wider, starting from the Corvatsch ski area in the Engadine, moving on to France’s Les 3 Vallées, and finishing in Austria with Stubai and Sölden
