From April 18 to 20, a new edition of Prowinter, the trade fair dedicated to rental and services for winter sports, this year combined with Alpitec, the international trade fair for alpine and winter technology.
One of the most important trade fair events dedicated to snow is back, with a programme packed with side events: labs, workshops, screenings, meetings and award ceremonies will follow one another in the exhibition spaces set up in the halls of Fiera Bolzano.
Three days entirely devoted to the world of mountains and winter sports, attended by the various categories of industry operators, from manufacturers of clothing and technical equipment to rental shops, from ski service workshops to lift companies, from ski clubs to trade associations, right up to the great champions of the various winter disciplines. An important event to take stock of the 2011/2012 winter season, while waiting to discover the news, previews and trends ahead of winter 2012/2013. The number of exhibitors taking part in the next edition of the fair is on the rise, thanks in part to the introduction of the new platform dedicated to ski touring, which opens the doors to a new sector of specialised companies.
Ideally opening the event will be the first edition of Stricker Visions, scheduled for Tuesday, April 17 at 5:30 pm at the Salewa Headquarter in Bolzano. Conceived and promoted by Linda Esser and Nina Stricker, wife and daughter of the recently deceased “Crazy Horse” of skiing, the event is intended as a tribute to the highly innovative and original approach that always characterised Erwin Stricker’s work.
On Wednesday, April 18, at 11:00 am, the official opening ceremony on the stage of the Prowinter Forum will officially raise the curtain on the new edition of Prowinter and Alpitec 2012. At 12:00 noon the South Tyrol Ski Instructors’ Professional Association and the Tourism Department of the Province of Bolzano will present diplomas to the new ski, snowboard and cross-country instructors who, from next season, will be working on the slopes of South Tyrol, passing on the fundamentals and secrets of the various skiing disciplines to enthusiasts.
On Thursday, April 19, at 9:00 am, the programme features the ANEF National Assembly – National Association of Cable Car Operators – reserved for industry operators, during which the issues of interest to operators at the end of the winter season just ended will be discussed. At 10:00 am the traditional International SkiAreaTest returns, the ceremony presenting the 2011/2012 winter awards, in which the best ski resorts in the Alps will be honoured at the end of a selection process based on anonymous inspections carried out during the winter season just ended by 220 assessors. In addition to the winners of the categories cable cars and lifts, ski resorts, restaurants, après-ski venues, ski schools, sports shops and children’s services, the best ski slopes will also be awarded the international seal of quality.
The leitmotif of the last day of the fair, Friday, April 20, will be ski mountaineering, thanks to the new Prowinter Skitouring platform, which effectively completes the exhibition offering of Prowinter and Alpitec 2012. During the morning the “Vajolet” Hall will be turned into a screening room for the presentation of evocative documentaries selected from the archive of the Trento Filmfestival, the Trentino festival of films about mountaineering and the mountains, this year a partner of FieraBolzano SpA. Among the documentaries being screened is “Mount St. Elias” (Austria, 2009), which tells the story of the feat of three skiers, among the most famous in the world, on Mount St.Elias in Alaska, to achieve the longest descent in history.
The Alpitec and Prowinter 2012 Forum will therefore be the centre of the winter sports world for three days: athletes, professionals and industry insiders will take to the stage, reaffirming the importance of the Bolzano trade fair in the calendar of ski enthusiasts and of those whose business is built on winter activities.
