World Snow Day, promoting winter sports

World Snow Day, an international event dedicated to young children, will take place on January 22, 2012.
The initiative is organized by the FIS (International Ski Federation) and aims to bring children closer to snow and skiing in a way that is both mindful and fun at the same time.
As many as 130 resorts have already signed up for the initiative, including 10 Italian ones (Val di Fiemme, Cortina d’Ampezzo, Monte Amiata, Abetone, Pragelato, Lavarone, Corno alle Scale, Villaggio Palumbo, Courmayeur and Lizzola), but there is still time to join.
Anyone interested needs to hurry to become part of the select group of resorts that will carry the official “World Snow Day” brand, because registrations close on December 15, 2011.
Those who join the initiative will receive a promotional kit along with some guidelines and ideas for organizing events, but each organizer is free to act and manage things as they see fit, above all in relation to the specific area in which they operate. The underlying spirit of this event, in fact, is to combine local traditions with an international outlook, and only those who know an area well are able to organize initiatives that are suitable and enjoyable for participants.
So what do you need to do to take part?
1) Fill in the form on the website www.world-snow-day.com or through the Fisi
2) Access the promotional kit provided by the Fis
3) Propose a program for the day of January 22 and send it by email to the Fis at worldsnowday@fisski.com
4) Promote the events locally as much as possible, via the web, the press or other media. Promotion is entirely the responsibility of the individual organizers
5) Send the Fis a report on the day by February 15

At the end of the event and after careful evaluation, the Fis will reward the best idea of the year carried out as part of World Snow Day.

Groups, associations and local organizations can also join the initiative; the important thing is that everyone keeps in mind that the purpose of the event is to promote a day on the snow for children and families, to create a new spirit around the world of snow and to give an international dimension to snow sports, practiced not only in a competitive spirit but also simply for fun.
