The mountains are not just about skiing: the magic of the Christmas markets in Trentino

In winter the mountains have a special charm, especially for those who love winter sports and snow. When, however, besides winter, we are also talking about the Christmas season, the charm of certain parts of Italy takes on a very special nuance.
The Christmas spirit can in fact be felt in every street thanks to the Christmas markets, which are by now a tradition in our country and which can be found and visited in many regions.
Trentino is a region where many towns are transformed throughout the Christmas period with lights, stalls and local products to offer to visitors.
As mentioned, many towns hold a Christmas market, but some of them have by now become traditional venues for these events and offer not only the markets but also many side events that help to transform the town even further and to create a magical and special atmosphere.

Arco: the Christmas markets return to Arco from November 18 to December 23. More than forty wooden chalets fill the streets of the town centre, offering visitors local products of every kind. It is impossible not to find the right gift! From Christmas decorations to food; from candles to Tyrolean slippers: there is something for every taste. Many initiatives are also organised: a tour of the town every weekend, a nativity scene exhibition, activities for the little ones. Guest star of the market: Alì the camel, whose presence will no doubt brighten up the atmosphere.

Trento: the Trento market has now reached its nineteenth edition, becoming one of the historic events of Christmas in Trentino. Every year it welcomes more than 500,000 visitors, offering them a special atmosphere that immerses them in the Christmas spirit. The market is held within the city’s medieval walls from November 19 to December 30. The chalets offer every kind of local product, retracing the history of Trentino craftsmanship. One area of the market is reserved for the flavours of the region, where you will be able to taste every local dish: from apple strudel to polenta, by way of cheeses and soups.

Rovereto: in this small town the flavour of Christmas is quite special, because it is the Christmas of Peoples, which this year brings together Bethlehem, Lampedusa and Scandinavia. Bethlehem represents the homeland of every Christmas in the world, Lampedusa the gateway to the Mediterranean, and Scandinavia the place where Santa Claus traditionally lives. The Rovereto market therefore stands out for its international character and winds through the streets of the town, leading visitors from traditional Bethlehem to southern Italy and on to northern Europe. Many side activities are also planned: a visit to the church of San Marco, a concert of traditional songs on the night of Saint Lucy, visits to the museums of Rovereto and countless initiatives for children. The market will be open from November 25 until December 31.

Levico Terme: from November 19 to January 6 the magical Christmas market is set up in the centuries-old Habsburg park, where, amid soft lights and wooden chalets, it takes adults and children on a journey of discovery of Tyrolean and Habsburg traditions. The atmosphere created by strolling along the snow-covered avenues of the park is extremely evocative and allows you to buy local products in a very special setting. It is also possible to visit the old village aboard a carriage and attend concerts by numerous artists.
