BigSnow is hitting the Alps hard, dumping a record-breaking amount of snow!
Since yesterday it has been snowing non-stop across the Alps with unprecedented blizzards. Overnight “all hell broke loose”, with snowfalls so heavy that the Dolomites woke up to a full meter of fresh snow.

A huge amount of snow fell in just a few hours, making the landscape even whiter if possible, while also causing the first disruptions.
In the Belluno Dolomites, traffic problems and power blackouts have been reported in parts of Cadore, once again due to the extremely heavy snowfall. Schools are closed in many villages, and several road sections are blocked by fallen trees or small snow slides.
Naturally, avalanche danger is extremely high, and the sheer volume of snow has forced the closure of ski slopes in several ski areas as well. Many of the events scheduled from yesterday through the weekend have been cancelled.
Snowplows and salt spreaders are operating across the entire Alpine arc, working non-stop to keep roads passable. Nevertheless, despite tremendous efforts, some towns remain partially cut off.
Standing out above all is the case of Sella Nevea, where snowcats were brought into action to clear the roads. (photo: Ivano di Sella Nevea Group)

It keeps snowing: 4.70 meters of snow in Sella Nevea
Snowfalls are still underway, and this storm system will not move away before Sunday evening.
Across many areas of the north-east, another meter of snow is expected, with further heavy snowfalls forecast across the entire Alpine arc.
Snow reports are being continuously updated as conditions change from hour to hour. The most striking figures come from the Dolomites, where snow depths exceed 3 meters almost everywhere, while at Sella Nevea the snow gauge reads 470 cm at an altitude of 1,800 m.
