Moonlight skiing: in the Engadin you can

Full moon skiing

full moon skiing The Engadin is one of the most beautiful and famous ski destinations in the world; every year, countless snow lovers travel to this Swiss valley for a holiday filled with mountain sports and relaxation.
Between the wild Diavolezza Glacier and the elegant town center of St. Moritz, visitors can find a wealth of winter activities to enjoy, from classic skiing and snowboarding to snowshoeing or romantic horse-drawn sleigh rides.
Here winter starts early and only ends with the arrival of May: the ski season is one of the longest in the entire Alps thanks to ski slopes reaching 3,000 meters above sea level and a geographic exposure that favors snow-bearing weather systems, which regularly dump huge amounts of snow here and make it one of the snowiest valleys in Europe.
Over the years, this has driven the development of a ski area that today boasts more than 150 km of alpine ski slopes suited to every taste and skill level.

Skiing while looking down into the valley where the frozen lake blends into snow-covered meadows and village houses is a feast for the eyes and soul; yet beyond daytime skiing in a snow-covered paradise, the Engadin offers something very few other places can match: full-moon night skiing…

Lit by the gentle glow of the Moon, in the middle of the night you can ski down the snows of the Engadin against the extraordinary backdrop of the Diavolezza Glacier, whose icy surface reflects the moonlight and illuminates the natural amphitheater of the Engadin.
In the local Romansh language, this magical experience is called “Glüna Plaina”—meaning “Full Moon”: on full-moon nights from mid-December to the end of March, the Diavolezza ski lifts also open at night from 7:30 PM to 11:15 PM, allowing skiers to ride up to high altitude and ski down guided only by the moonlight reflecting off the snow.
A one-of-a-kind experience that delivers unforgettable thrills, making these mountains even more magical and a traditional sport like skiing even more captivating.

For those who want the complete experience, there is also the option to dine at high altitude at the panoramic mountain restaurant before skiing peacefully down into the valley.
The silence of the mountains, the unhurried pace of nature, the magic of the starry sky—a ski run like this is something you have to try at least once in your life.
