Anyone who loves the mountains knows that snow and skiing can offer great emotions, lots of fun and breathtaking experiences. Perhaps not everyone knows, however, that on skis you can also relive historical experiences, discovering the past and our history, events that marked our origins and gave birth to our country.
This is what the Great War Ski Tour offers: an unmissable experience across the Dolomites, an unforgettable journey with skis on your feet, amid nature, emotion, historical events and testimonies.
The itinerary starts from Selva di Cadore and crosses many symbolic areas of the First World War, where famous battles were fought: Col di Lana, Passo Falzarego, Lagazuoi, Marmolada….
The route winds through several Dolomite groups (Civetta, Pelmo, Tofane…) and gives you the chance to admire splendid breathtaking panoramas, to ski through vast forests or close to lakes, and to be enchanted by the frozen waterfalls of Armentarola or the Serrai di Sottoguda.
Immersed in this fantastic natural setting, you can see the traces of the Great War: positions, tunnels and loopholes built by the soldiers to face the enemy and cope with life at high altitude during the war.
The Great War tour is a route suitable for everyone, adults and children, including those who usually snowboard; it is well signposted with boards and directions and winds through several ski areas of the Dolomites. The tour takes a whole day, setting off early in the morning and getting back by the time the lifts close.
Before setting off you need to get the Dolomiti Superski ski pass, which entitles you to ski in the various ski areas and to use the various bus services for the connections.
Given the truly evocative landscapes, we also recommend that you don’t forget your camera, so you can keep memorable images of this experience.
A magical experience that lets you see skiing in the Dolomites in a new light, combining nature, sport and history in an interesting, stimulating and completely original setting.
