From the 2011/2012 winter season, freeride enthusiasts will have a new route available at Passo San Pellegrino, a well-known tourist resort in the Val di Fassa, where they can practise their favourite sport in complete safety.
On the north face of Col Margherita, in fact, the Col Margherita Freeride Park will come into operation, a true snow paradise for those who love venturing off-piste in search of thrills. “Freeride is a fast-growing phenomenon that lets you ski in total freedom, far from the crowded slopes, putting your own style and technical skills to the test on breathtaking descents” explains Renzo Minella, marketing manager of Passo San Pellegrino. “It is therefore a project of great value for tourism in terms of improving what is on offer, and a great opportunity to enhance and promote the whole Pass as a destination for snow holidays. The aim, moreover, is to bring Riders closer through a training programme using the facilities of the Freeride Park, so as to pass on to them the right information to practise this wonderful activity in maximum safety.”
Col Margherita is the ideal place for freeriding because its high altitude, 2,513 m a.s.l., ensures excellent snow cover for much of the winter, and the route, agreed with the Province of Trento, the Municipality of Moena, the Moena Police School and the Mountain Rescue service, will be equipped with appropriate signage, an avalanche transceiver check gate, qualified staff able to report the presence of avalanche risk, insufficient snow cover or poor visibility serious enough to rule out the descent, and a prompt rescue service, run in collaboration with the State Police and the Mountain Rescue service.
Safe and easily accessible. Once at Passo San Pellegrino, skiers will be able to reach the Col Margherita Freeride Park easily via the fast Col Margherita cable car, and between runs stop for a pleasant break at the two refreshment points, Husky Bar and Diametro 64, located respectively at the top and bottom of the prestigious lift with 2 cabins holding 100 people each.
