The small region home to Europe’s highest peaks remains an undisputed winter tourism destination, extending its season right up to May 5 thanks to the slopes of Cervinia reaching 3,500 meters of altitude, while other lower-elevation resorts will still manage to stay open until mid-April.
This was not a record-breaking winter for Aosta Valley, and the storms that brought heavy snow to the rest of the Alpine arc never had a huge impact here. Even with an average season, however, the highest elevations still boast more than 2 meters of snow.
In Aosta Valley, the lifts will remain open until the following dates:
- Cervinia – May 5, 2013
- Valtournenche – April 14, 2013
- Pila – April 14, 2013
- La Thuile – April 14, 2013
- Courmayeur – until April 7, then reopening on April 13 and 14 as snow conditions remain excellent
- Torgnon – April 1, 2013
- Champorcher – April 1, 2013
- Crévacol – April 2, 2013
- Cogne – April 3, 2013
- Monterosa Ski – until April 14
- Antagnod and Brusson – until April 1
- Gressoney-Saint-Jean until April 3
For many ski areas, the last skiable day will be April 14—including Monterosa Ski, which after closing its alpine ski runs will reopen on April 20 on the Gressoney-La-Trinité and Alagna sides, transforming the ski area into an off-piste paradise where ski and snowboard freeriders can have fun on perfectly snow-covered slopes.
