Ski World Championships in Garmisch – Elena Curtoni amazes everyone on her debut!

The women’s super-G in Garmisch – Germany – ended with victory for Elisabeth Goergl; the Austrian left American Julia Mancuso and German Maria Riesch behind her.
The Italian women did not win any medals, and the one who came closest to the podium was not a veteran of Italian skiing but newcomer Elena Curtoni.
Fresh from her win at the Junior World Championships, Elena Curtoni was making her debut in her first World Championship race in the top category, but she managed to amaze everyone with an unimaginable performance.
Ahead of all the other Italians and, above all, ahead of the favourite Lindsey Vonn, Elena managed to bring out the best in herself in a race where getting results was difficult for everyone.

Thrilled after the race, this is how she commented on her performance:

It was a beautiful race, things went well. I tried to ski relaxed; the coaches advised us to have fun and I followed orders. Finishing one hundredth ahead of a champion like Lindsey Vonn and one hundredth behind a rival like Anna Fenninger gives me a strange feeling. I made a few little mistakes here and there, but I gave it my all and at my age I can afford to. Skiing the course the day before had scared me, but afterwards things went better. Now I’ll take part in the super combined; I’m not expecting anything in particular, I just want to keep having fun

Here is the interview with Eurosport

and tomorrow morning at 10:00, eyes glued to the screen because it’s the men’s turn!
