A white awakening today for Alpine resorts above 1,000 metres. Overnight a new weather front brought fresh snowfall down to “wintry” levels.
After last week’s snowfall, which had only whitened the peaks above 2,000 m, today the snow has reached decidedly low altitudes (given the season), bringing substantial snowfall above 1,500 m. Snow is falling more or less across the whole Alpine arc, with higher snow levels on the mountains along the borders.
A white blanket has covered the slopes, most of which are now closed, from the Aosta Valley to Friuli, already leaving 10/15 cm of snow on the ground. Snow has covered the already green meadows of Asiago (which closed its season a month and a half early), and there is snow in Val di Fiemme, at Prato Nevoso and even at Schilpario.
The snowfall will continue throughout the day today (April 11), with clear spells only in the evening; temperatures will then rise again, but a new weather front is expected for the weekend, bringing snow at higher altitudes.
Unfortunately many ski areas won’t be able to make the most of this spring gift: in most cases the lifts closed their doors at the end of the Easter long weekend.
Post-Easter Skiing on Fresh Snow
But the ski season isn’t over, it is simply moving higher up, with lifts open in several resorts.
Above 2,000 m the snow conditions are still very good; in fact, thanks to last week’s front, the snowfall of the last few hours and the snow expected for the weekend, you’ll be able to ski on plenty of fresh snow as if it were the middle of winter.
Among them all, it’s worth remembering that you can ski on the slopes of Monterosa Ski, Cervinia, Pila, San Domenico, Livigno, Bormio, Val Senales, Adamello Ski, Madonna di Campiglio, Cortina Faloria, Skiarena Klausberg, Ski Area Valchiavenna, Pila, La Thuile, Racines Giovo, Plan de Corones, Val Gardena, Alpe di Siusi.
