Snow only in the high mountains, but autumn’s days are numbered

Heavy November snowfall

heavy november snowfallsIt is still snowing in the Alps, especially in the northwestern resorts, with Aosta Valley and Piedmont taking center stage during these two early November weather systems.
After more than a meter of snow fell last week, the Italian mountains are preparing to receive heavy snowfalls from today until the end of the week. Forecasts indicate snow starting from 2,000 meters, with the snow line dropping on Thursday when flakes could brush ski resorts at medium altitudes.

Heavy snowfalls will only take center stage above 2,200–2,500 meters of altitude with minimal differences from area to area; benefiting once again are glaciers such as Presena and the Val Senales Glacier, as well as high-altitude ski areas like Cervinia and Solda all’Ortles.
These resorts opened over the weekend, treating the first skiers to good snow conditions.

While the Sirocco wind will be decisive in this second weather system too, weather forecasts are beginning to show the first glimpses of winter: in fact, toward the weekend and especially after mid-November, temperatures will return to average with the freezing level reaching medium-low altitudes.
We do not yet know whether this will bring snow to low altitudes as well, but knowing that winter is just around the corner certainly pleases those who, like us, eagerly await lift openings in other ski resorts too.

In the meantime, our eyes remain fixed on the snow forecasts and live webcams
