Tour de Sas, technical information and registration

Alta Badia is not just alpine skiing”, this is the slogan under which the Tour de Sas is presented, part of the Coppa delle Dolomiti ski mountaineering circuit: the aim is to make known the places along the race route where the lifts don’t reach, peaks and passes usually known in summer.

The Tour de Sas, which will take place on Sunday, February 20, is 26 kilometres long, all to be covered uphill, with a vertical gain of more than 2,000 metres.

It will touch the Sasso delle Nove, the Pizes da Lé and the Medesc: all splendid peaks for ski mountaineering but also for less demanding excursions, and it will venture into the heart of the Fanes Nature Park.

The start is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Sunday from the mid-station of the Santa Croce chairlift in Badia. The winners will be the man and the woman who manage to finish closest to the ideal time, calculated as the average between the times of the first and the last to arrive.

Registration is possible only on the official website (www.tourdesas.it) or by fax and will close on February 19 at 8:30 a.m. or when 300 entrants are reached: it includes the race pack, transfer to the start area, refreshment points and a final pasta party. Competitors must be over 21 years old and hold a valid medical certificate.

The course must be completed in a maximum of 6 hours, with time cut-offs to be met on pain of disqualification from the race. Prizes for the first 20 men and the first 5 women: attendance at the prize-giving, which will take place at 4 p.m. in the events hall of San Leonardo Badia, is compulsory.

Among the new features is the photo competition linked to the race: the 10 most beautiful pictures of the day will receive attractive cash prizes and the winning one will be used for the cover of the next Coppa Dolomiti.
