«The warm weather of recent days,» said Michele Festini Purlan, «gave us a scare, but the race course has held up well against this föhn spell; now we hope a weather system will dress our mountains in their classic winter coat.»
«As for the side events,» the Spiquy Team president continued, «following the success of the kids’ days on the Skid Alp Tour and the themed evenings dedicated to the snowshoeing book presentation and Antarctica with Marcello Manzoni, the program continues with a memorial hike to the mountain hut in remembrance of the friends who are no longer with us.»
On January 10, the Spiquy Team, which organizes the Pitturina in partnership with the Dolomiti Ski-Alp club, will honor the memory of their friends Giorgio, Marco, Ivan, Leonardo, Fabrizio, and Patrik with an excursion up to Rifugio Rudi Hütte. Open to everyone, the outing will depart from Passo Monte Croce Comelico at 6:30 PM, and participants may reach the hut on skis, snowshoes, toboggans, or sleds.
On Saturday, January 19, the Pitturina Ski Race program will move into high gear with the “Pitturina Contest,” a roundtable discussion featuring Fausto De Stefani, Fabio Rufus Bristot, Roberto De Martin, Michele Boscacci, and Oscar Angeloni.
Following the panel at 6:00 PM, official event announcer Paolo Mutton will call out the bib numbers of the top skiers. The evening will wrap up with the race briefing and the “Pitturina Long Drink,” a pre-race aperitif ahead of the battle for the national titles.
On Sunday morning, Val Comelico will wake up early: starting at 6:30 AM, the race office will resume bib distribution, while the “3rd Val Comelico Ski-Alp Rally” will set off at 6:30 AM. The battle for the top step of the podium and the Italian championship jersey will begin at 9:30 AM with the start of the fifth edition of the Pitturina Ski Race.
