Folgarida: new six-person Brenzi chairlift and redesigned slopes at Malghet Aut

Folgarida is preparing to kick off the ski season on Thursday, December 3, 2026, unveiling a thoroughly redesigned layout in the Malghet Aut basin. At the center of the projects carried out for winter 2026/27 is the new six-person Brenzi chairlift, built to replace the historic 1984 double chair alongside a comprehensive overhaul of the slopes, intersections, and beginner areas. It stands out as one of the season’s most significant upgrades for the Folgarida-Marilleva sector, part of the larger interconnected ski domain linked with Madonna di Campiglio and Pinzolo.

To appreciate the value of the project, one need only watch how skiers move through Malghet Aut. This mid-mountain plateau is where the gondolas rising from Folgarida and the Belvedere sector converge, where ski school classes meet up, and where skiers pass through on their way toward Monte Spolverino and the rest of the ski area. Redesigning the zone therefore served a very practical purpose: making through-traffic smoother for skiers traveling from one valley side to another while guaranteeing a quieter, more sheltered environment for those learning to link their first turns.

The most immediate change to on-slope traffic flow appears when skiing down from Spolverino: branching off the lower-middle section of the run is a new connecting trail that leads directly to the base of the Brenzi chairlift without having to cut across the beginner learning area. Skiers looking to lap runs and head straight back up the mountain now have a dedicated lane, freeing the teaching zone from through-traffic. Following the same logic, the intersection between the Brenzi slope and the Collegamento-Malghet Aut SkiWeg has been separated onto two levels thanks to a new illuminated underpass, while inside the learning zone the Malghet Aut-SX surface lift has been extended.

A slope over fifty meters wide and a faster ride up

The generational leap in lift capacity required an equally significant upgrade to the skiable terrain. The Brenzi slope, served directly by the new lift, has been widened from roughly 30 meters to more than 50 meters across, accompanied by slope regrading and an upgraded programmed snowmaking network. That much more generous width is essential to safely accommodate the larger flow of skiers carried up the mountain by the new chairlift.

On the technical side, the lift company’s project marks a jump from the old double chair’s 1,200 passengers per hour to an uphill capacity of 3,000 passengers per hour. After more than forty years of service by the previous fixed-grip line, the new detachable Brenzi introduces six-person chairs equipped with heated seats and weather-protection bubbles, working alongside the Malghet Aut-Monte Spolverino chairlift to balance lift lines more evenly and offer a fast alternative out of the basin.

The first opportunity to experience the new layout at Malghet Aut in person is set for December 3, with daily operations at Folgarida-Marilleva scheduled to begin right on the eve of the Immaculate Conception holiday weekend. As always in early winter, the opening of individual trails and high-altitude links will progress hand in hand with slope preparation until the full network of 62 kilometers in Folgarida-Marilleva and over 150 kilometers of ski-in, ski-out runs across the Madonna di Campiglio SkiArea between Val di Sole and Val Rendena are open. From the Val di Sole floor, skiers can ride up via the base access gondolas in Folgarida, Marilleva, and Daolasa, the latter also reachable directly by train at Commezzadura along the Trento-Malé-Mezzana railway line.
