The official news comes directly from the FIS, which announced the candidate resorts to host the 2021 World Championships: only Cortina d’Ampezzo appears on the list, meaning the Pearl of the Dolomites has won unopposed.
There is great enthusiasm in the most famous resort of the Dolomites, which after several years has finally achieved the hoped-for result that had previously slipped away—not without controversy.
The Pearl of the Dolomites had tried repeatedly to win the World Championships, bidding for 2013 and 2015, withdrawing its bid for the 2017 World Championships, while Cortina’s victory for the 2019 World Championships seemed within reach until the FIS verdict awarded them to Åre (the Swedish ski resort).
Satisfaction was also expressed by FISI President Flavio Roda, who stated:
The commitment we made to ensure that Cortina would be the sole candidate has been fulfilled; now we will have an extra year to work with even greater vigor.
The coming seasons will be a proving ground that Cortina can and must use to continuously improve its ski offering, with skiers eagerly awaiting lift modernization works and much more.
