Just a few days remain until the first weekend of April, and the Italian mountains are still covered by a deep snowpack resulting from a good winter and persistent snowfalls even in this early spring.
Along the border between Italy and Austria, at 2,000 meters of altitude, there is a full 2.5 meters of snow, while in some parts of Piedmont at the same elevation snow depth on the ground reaches 3 meters (see the snow report). With all this snow, the season could easily continue for at least a few more weeks, yet many tourism operators have decided to close their lifts and bring this winter season to an end.
For many skiers, the weekend of April 6/7 will be the final date with the snow, as numerous ski areas have scheduled their ski lift closures starting Monday, April 8.
Trentino Alto Adige:
Italy’s flagship winter tourism region has enjoyed an excellent ski season with plenty of snow right from the first days of November; today the amount of snow on the ground is still remarkable, yet many ski areas have decided not to postpone their lift closures and have set their final day of skiing for April 7, including:
- Andalo Paganella
- Folgaria
- San Martino di Castrozza
- Val di Fassa
- Valle Isarco
- Alta Badia
- Monte Elmo (Sesto)
- Val Gardena
- Valle Isarco
- Sella Ronda (the ski-in/ski-out circuit linking the various Dolomiti Superski resorts)
- Val d’Ultimo (last day of skiing on April 6)
- Racines-Giovo
- Brentonico Ski

- La Thuile (see all lift closing dates in Aosta Valley)
- Limone Piemonte (Piedmont)
- Arabba (Veneto)
- Marmolada (Veneto)

Apennines
In the Apennines too, April 7 will mark the end of the 2012/13 season, from Emilia-Romagna to Abruzzo:
- Roccaraso (Abruzzo)
- Campo Felice (Abruzzo)
Many other ski areas have decided to close their ski lifts on April 14, while some—despite a scheduled closing date of April 14—have decided not to open their lifts on weekdays; for any questions or further information, leave a comment below and our staff will reply.
