Hopes of strapping skis back on the snow of the Presena Glacier have faded for now, as announced today in a brief update by the Adamello Ski resort, which has been forced to postpone the opening of its ski lifts.
Upending plans were the high temperatures of the past week and the failure of new weather systems initially forecast by meteorologists to materialize. Sunshine and no snowfall have left the Presena covered by only a few dozen centimeters of snow—not enough to reopen slopes that were sorely tested by the scorching summer.
No skiing for now, then, although Adamello Ski is already pinning its hopes on the weather forecast for this coming weekend; indeed, the official website states:
“We will have to wait a few more days before kicking off the 2012–2013 winter season. A new weather system is expected on Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27 and could prove decisive for opening the Presena, though we will only be able to assess this at the beginning of next week.”
Caution is the watchword with weather that is increasingly unpredictable and increasingly erratic… While waiting for General Winter!
