The twenty-second edition of the Sgambeda was supposed to take place in Livigno from December 14 to 18, with a very rich and wide-ranging program this year, suitable for everyone wishing to take part in this great sporting event.
The large number of entrants confirms that the event has now become a point of reference for enthusiasts. An interesting fact is that over 40% of them do not speak Italian, which underlines the now international nature of the event.
Unfortunately, however, the snow that has fallen in recent days is not enough to guarantee that the races can be held, and so the organizers have been forced to cancel the event.
Unfortunately the temperatures, high for the season throughout the recent period, and the scarce precipitation have created a difficult start to the season across the whole Alpine arc, and Livigno is paying the price too.
The “Classic” and “Marathon” races will therefore not be held, while the “Minisgambeda” for the youngest and the “Short Race”, postponed to Sunday, December 18, 2011, remain confirmed
The new, reduced and scaled-down program therefore includes, on Saturday, December 17, the Minisgambeda, reserved for all young people born between 1993 and 2003 holding an F.I.S.I. card for 2011/2012. The length of the course varies according to the age of the participants, who will be divided into age-group categories.
On Sunday, December 18 the event gets under way with the brand-new Short Race, an individual race over 3 kilometers. The race is open to men and women aged 16 and over who hold an F.I.S.I. card for the current season or a certificate of fitness issued by a sports doctor.
Here is the detailed program:
SATURDAY, December 17 MINISGAMBEDA
From 09:00 to 12:30 bib distribution for Minisgambeda & Short Race at Plaza Placheda
12:00 Minisgambeda start (time subject to change)
16:00 Minisgambeda prize-giving at Plaza Placheda
SUNDAY, December 18 SHORT RACE
From 09:00 to 12:30 bib distribution for Short Race at Plaza Placheda
13:30 Short Race start (time subject to change)
Course: 3 km
Technique: free
Start: individual
Despite the considerable downsizing of the event that the organizers were forced into, it should be borne in mind that for several weeks a 2.5 km cross-country ski loop has been open at Forcola di Livigno and 17 ski lifts have been running for alpine skiing.
