The Ghiacciaio Presena reopens on Saturday October 29: the news came like a bolt from the blue after weeks of doubts and uncertainty about the start of the season in the Adamello Ski area.
A good 60 centimetres of snow have fallen on the glacier in the last few hours, an intense snowfall that has literally changed the situation on the Presena, which until a few days ago was at a standstill due to the lack of snow, with a season opening that looked uncertain compared with last year, when the lifts opened on October 23.
As we had predicted, this snowfall was the acid test for the Adamello glacier, which more than others had suffered from an early autumn with scarce precipitation. With the opening of the Val Senales glacier, the beautiful season at Passo Stelvio and the opening of Cervinia confirmed well in advance, the Ghiacciaio Presena risked remaining the only 3,000 m ski area not yet to have opened its ski season.
The 60 cm of fresh snow that fell in the last few hours add to the 25 cm from the previous snowfall and to the snow saved from the summer thanks to geotextile sheets.
From Saturday the 29th you can ski on the Presena destro slope in the upper part of the glacier, at 3,000 m, from 8:15 to 15:00. Both mountain huts at altitude will be open (both the one at the bottom of the T-bars and the one at the top of the gondola lift) and anyone who wishes can stay up there until 16:45, closing time of the Paradiso gondola lift. Ski passes can be bought at the ticket offices of the Paradiso gondola lift and in Pontedilegno; for this period the day pass costs 27 euros.
